ABOUT LOPEZ ISLAND

THE JEWEL OF THE SAN JUAN ISLANDS

Lopez Island Lodging — McBarron Cottage - photo of spectacular sunset

Lopez Island is located in the Puget Sound off the NW corner of Washington State. It is known for it’s pristine beauty, great beaches, and friendly inhabitants. Lopez is refered to as “the crown jewel” of the San Juan Islands. Most of the island’s businesses are located in Lopez Village, a hamlet on Fisherman Bay. On Saturday morning in the summer you’ll find shoppers milling around the farmers market, locals chatting in the coffee shops , and children and adults alike beach walking and bicycling. Spencer Spit State Park, Shark Reef, Ice Berg Point and Mackaye Harbor are just a few of the must see places on the Island.

Visit Lopez Village where you can enjoy a great cup of coffee at one of several local coffee shops before you visit one of the regions best farmers markets featuring many local artists as well as local organic foods. Lopez Center for the Community and the Arts features some first rate entertainment from across the globe. People come from all over to see one of the largest publicly funded fireworks displays and enjoy the other 4th of July activities. Lopez Island has many fine restaurants featuring local organic meats and produce. Lopez is also known for it’s spectacular sunsets of which you can enjoy at any number of it’s restaurants, parks, beaches or — of course — right from the patio of the Nowak House or the deck of McBarron Cottage, which overlooks Mackaye Harbor.
